Speaker Test Results

The overall favorite of the guitar-playing test panel was the Jensen MOD 50. The ceramic MOD 50 produced the best compliment of tube and speaker saturation. The tone was like a vintage low-wattage tweed amp. The MOD 50 had a nice fat low-end with sweet mid range response. At the treble end, the speaker put out more gain and bite rather than a glassy, brittle sound that was produced by some of the other shoot-out contestants. The amp and speaker liked both single coil and humbucker pickups and made the acoustic flat top sound heavenly. The acoustic sounded as if it were mic'ed rather than being played through an onboard pickup. This combination had it all; great clean tone and vintage gain sounds with all pickup types tested and a natural sounding, woody vibe with the acoustic guitar.
